His timing is perfect.

Todd has been worrying about things the last couple days. He’s still out of a job, but he hasn’t been actively looking. That doesn’t bother me in the least. I like having him home, and I see such a change in him. He’s happier and healthier. And we’re doing good with the blessings God has given us.

But I do not have anymore weddings booked. At all. I have some meetings with some potential clients, but as of right now, I have nothing booked. And he has no job. So, naturally, he’s been worried the last couple days. He’s thinking about insurance, and the house, moving and school, and, well, everything. He’s not stressed. Like I said, we have more than enough to take care of us right NOW. And actually, the blessings keep coming in. But it won’t last for long, and I’m sure God doesn’t want us to get lazy. So, he’s worrying about getting a job. Where, and when, and all that.

God is stirring our lives right now. He has more in store for us. We have been very happy at Parkview Church. We are fitting in, volunteering, I’m looking for a home group. Ava loves the kids program (we do too!) and she wants to pray, she wants to know more about God. She loves going to church. Todd and I have been wanting to get back into the bible, and Todd remembered that Parkview has a bible-reading plan on their website. So, he went online and found that according to the schedule, today is Matthew 6. I was wondering if we should just start with Matthew 1, but he figured we’d just try to stick to the schedule and see what happens. So, (with all his worries in the back of his head) he opened it up and began to read. Matthew 6:25-34 says:

25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Todd came to me right away (and he wants me to mention he did NOT have tears in his eyes) and read me that passage. We prayed and we thanked God for slapping us in the face with scripture, and for all of the blessings He has given us and asked Him to continue to show Himself to us. God is so good. All the time. And His timing is perfect. He knew Todd (and I)needed to hear that. He’s so awesome.

On Turning 30

Posted on August 31, 2009

I turned 30 on the 13th. How do I feel about that? Honestly? I feel great! First of all, I LOVE birthdays. I have yet to be afraid of turning another year older. It doesn’t bother me in the least. Am I aware that I’m another year closer to 70? Of course! And I’m so excited about that! When I’m 70, I won’t be working anymore. I will be able to do what I want, when I want, and I’ll be crochety (and justified) if anyone tells me differently. I will have people making sure I have my needs taken care of. I will have beautiful grandbabies and even possibly some great-grandbabies. I will be wise in all things on life and love. I’ll have beautiful wrinkles (signs of wisdom in my eyes) and long straight white hair, like my grandmother. I won’t worry about my weight anymore. I won’t worry about my clothes or my hair or my makeup. I really don’t see the problem. The only thing that worries me is that I may not have all of my friends and family around. I don’t even really want to think about that. That will come when it has to. Other than that, I can’t really see a bad side to turning older.

So yea, I feel pretty great about 30. I’m happy in my life, and I can’t really ask for more. I enjoy getting older, and I enjoy birthdays. Everyone of them. Plus, I get all the attention for the day. Can’t go wrong there!! (That’s my Leo talking.)  So, thank you for all the birthday wishes!

Free Renaissance Faire Tickets!!

Posted on August 24, 2009

My husband and I are geeks. It’s true. He loves comic books and super heroes and I love Star Wars and ghost hunting. We play World of Warcraft and Magic the Gathering. And we’ve gone to the Bristol Renaissance Faire for the last two years, and we plan to make it every year. And yes, we want to dress up too. We just don’t have the $1000+ it would take to be outfitted.  So yes, my name is Christina, and I’m a geek.

The other day we went to the Ren Faire and we won free tickets to come back. We had a great time- I really love it there! The atmosphere, the humor, the people are SO FREAKING NICE, and the acting and the characters are fantastic. But I don’t think we’ll be able to go back again this year, and there are only a few more times to go.* So, the tickets are yours!

For a price. Only you don’t have to open your wallet. You just have to open your soul.

To enter the contest, you just have to make a comment below and expose your inner geek! Or, if you wear your geek on your sleeve, tell me what makes you so geeky. And if you don’t have an inner geek- you’re lying. Even if you don’t want to go to the Ren Faire, you know someone geeky near you, so win it for them!

I will randomly select a winner out of the comments (using random.org). One entry per person. Contest ends at 9pm CST Wednesday evening, Aug 26th. The winner will be announced that evening.

Good luck!!

*Bristol Renaissance Faire is open July 11 – September 7, 2009 on

Making Baby Food

Posted on August 12, 2009

So, this morning, I made about 50 meals in two hours. And I spent less than $14.

Well, yes they were for a half pint chub-a-lub, but still. I made Ava’s baby food and it worked out so well, that I decided to make Lily’s too. It’s so easy, and it’s 100% REAL food, and it saves me a fortune! I honestly don’t know why more people don’t do it. I understand maybe time is a factor. But really, I spent two hours in the kitchen. Two hours and I have enough for almost a month. Not bad at all. And you all know I don’t have time. At all. And check out the price comparison! Can’t beat that!

So when I was doing this for Ava, I came across this book.

Babyfood_17

Fantastic book! Anything you want to know about making baby food, it’s in there. It’s really the only resource I used.

I especially like this section.

Babyfood_18

Pretty much anything you can think of to feed your baby (fruits and veggies) is in there. And they detail the nutrient value, what age the baby should be, how to cook it for baby, how to freeze it, etc. So if you have a left over mango that you want to mash up and give to your 7 month old, but you’re not sure how old he should be to eat mangos, just look it up!

Babyfood_19

There ya go. Love it. I recommend it to everyone!

So this morning I baked some butternut squash.

Babyfood_01

*sniff* That one didn’t turn out like I wanted. Next time I’ll bake it in water with the meat down.

While I was baking that, I boiled some sweet potatoes.

Babyfood_02

While those were doin’ their thing, I mashed up some bananas and poured it into an ice cube tray.

Babyfood_04

Label, label, label. You have no idea how much this stuff starts to look alike when it’s frozen.

Babyfood_05

Then I peeled a couple peaches and stuck those into the food processor.

Babyfood_06

Into the ice cube tray!

Babyfood_07

I microwaved some carrots too. Oh, this little pot thing is the best ever. Pampered Chef. Just sayin.

Babyfood_08

Babyfood_09

Peeled and pureed some pears.

Babyfood_10

Babyfood_11

All in the freezer! These will all keep for two months. But my little girl could eat them all in a day. Probably. Little chunker.

Babyfood_12

And she just sits there and jumps the whole time I’m cooking. Well most of the time.

Babyfood_13

Besides fruits and veggies, I’ve also started to make homemade rice cereal for her. Seriously easy. I take a bunch of brown rice, put it in a blender and blend it into powder. It takes 2 minutes in the blender. I usually just take that and store it into a container for easy access. When I want to make a batch of rice, I boil a cup of water.

Babyfood_15

Scoop out 1/4 cup of the powder.

Babyfood_14

Drop it in the water and wisk wisk wisk like mad for about a minute.

Babyfood_16

Then you let it cook on low for 10 minutes. You have to get in there and wisk it good every couple minutes.

Babyfood_20

Easy! Then I just add a tablespoon of this into her breakfast every morning. This morning it was rice, a cube of bananas and a cube of peaches.

Babyfood_21

Stick that into the microwave for about 30 seconds and you’re done!

Lets have a taste test.

Babyfood_22

Babyfood_23

Well Miss Expert, what do you think!?

Babyfood_24

Success!

I love making baby food!!

Blogging

Todd has been checking out these funny Demotivational posters on despair.com. I found this one pretty awesome, and very true. At least it seems true. But then sometimes, I hear someone say something like “I read your blog!” You do?! How many of you are out there?!

Baby Legs!

Posted on August 7, 2009

Seriously, how cute is this!?

BabyLegs_01

I’m not talking about her tush. Though that is seriously cute too.

I’m talking about these.

BabyLegs_02

Baby Legs! I saw these on a blog I read regularly, Chasin’ Mason. Megan, Mason’s mom had these on her adorable little man, and I just loved them!

BabyLegs_05

Lily has been crawling…or attempting to crawl and she rubs her little knees raw. I thought these would be perfect. Megan pointed me to Baby Legs and now I’m hooked!

BabyLegs_03

They’re one size fits most, so Ava can wear them for ballet, or for a cute outfit. They go on your legs, or arms, whatever! And they come in tons of different patterns and colors. So, I bought a few pairs of them. And I’m eyeing more…

BabyLegs_06

This may become an obsession, I’m afraid.

These ones are called super soft. And well, I can’t explain how super soft they are. They feel divine. I think I might wear them.

BabyLegs_07

My favorite part of these on Lily’s little legs? How the dots get stretched as they go up her too stinkin cute thunder thighs.

BabyLegs_04

So, to help me with my obsession, I’m giving away 4 pairs of Baby Legs (of their choosing) to one reader! My first contest! So excited!

To enter, please leave me a comment and let me know what you would do with a pair of Baby Legs. If your adorable little one would wear a pair, if your teenager wants a pair for himself, or if you think you want to make a fashion statement at work, whatever, let me know! I will randomly select a winner out of the comments (using random.org).

One entry per person. Contest ends at 9pm CST Friday evening, Aug 7th. The winner will be announced on Saturday morning.

Good luck!

**Contest is over! Any comments posted after 9:00pm CST will not count towards the contest.**

**The winner will be announced Saturday morning! Thanks everyone for playing!**

Nice try, Kid.

Posted on August 6, 2009

Me: “Morning baby.”

Ava: “Good morning.”

Me: “Go wake up Daddy and ask him to go to the store to get some milk, so you can have some cereal this morning.”

Ava: “Um…How ’bout cereal without milk?”

Me: “You don’t want milk in your cereal?”

Ava: “No, just cereal.”

Me: “Ok. Do you want a banana?”

Ava: “Yes please. And chocolate milk.”

Me: “Well, we don’t have milk right now.”

Ava: “How ’bout chocolate without milk?”

Me: “Yea, nice try, Kid.”

Teething Stinks.

Posted on August 4, 2009

Poor little girl. I think she may be getting 3 or 4 at the same time. She’s usually ok during the day, but at night- oh its awful. I can only just hold her and rock her while she screams. I’ve given her stuff to nom on, like teethers, but she seems to like bags of peas. We’ve given her Tylenol and ora-jel. I think I’m going to try those herbal tablets too. And I’ve heard frozen bagels too.

For now, you just nom on those peas Lily. No one in their right mind wants peas anyway.
